Thefts of $90,000 worth of generators from Chilliwack construction sites

One from Molson Coors site, second from Cultus Lake roundabout construction

The Chilliwack RCMP is urging construction contractors to be vigilant after $90,000 in thefts of electric generators from local job sites last week.

One was from the construction site at the Vedder Mountain Road/Cultus Lake Road roundabout and the other was from the Molson Coors brewery site on Kerr Avenue.

The Kerr Avenue theft was on Jan. 21 and the roundabout theft was on Jan. 22.

Police believe heavy equipment was used to transport the generator from the Kerr Avenue road construction site.

“The stolen equipment has a total estimated value of over $90,000 with electric generators appearing to be the target,” according to Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail.

One stolen item was a Cummings brand generator that is white with red trim displaying a United Rental logo mounted on an Onan trailer. The other was a trailer-mounted, white generator marked BA Blacktop.

As officers continue to conduct proactive patrols the RCMP are alerting contractors to remain watchful and to immediately report any suspicious overnight activity in areas surrounding job sites.

Anyone with information to these events is urged to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
