A Victoria man with lengthy criminal record will face new charges after being nabbed on Harbour Road.
RCMP are crediting the public for calling in a suspicious man that led to an arrest. Around noon on Feb. 5, Sidney North Saanich RCMP caught a thief in the act of breaking in to moored vessels, according to a news release.
RCMP were alerted to a man carrying a briefcase who seemed out of place. Police determined that the man had been around private boathouses in a nearby marina, and one of the boathouses and the boat it contained, had been entered. When arrested, police found the man had property stolen from the boat. They also discovered other property stolen from the boat, including liquor and a lap top computer, hidden nearby. RCMP say the 42-year-old man from Victoria has a lengthy criminal record with more than 40 convictions for break and enter, theft and other property related offences.
This crime would likely have gone unsolved, if it wasn’t for the curiosity and diligence showed by people in the neighborhood.
Suspicious activity should be reported to police, especially if you suspect someone is committing a criminal offence.
