Thieves rummage through vehicles in Ucluelet

I don't believe that we've had reported to us near the amount of vehicles that have been gone through.

If you woke up Wednesday morning to find your vehicle had been rummaged through by thieves, your local police want to know about it.

Ucluelet RCMP have received several reports of thefts from vehicles that they believe occurred early Wednesday morning, around 12:30 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Detachment Commander Sgt. Steve Mancini told the Westerly News that he believes some of the thefts have, so far, gone unreported and he’s asking anyone who had items stolen from their vehicles to immediately report it to police.

“I don’t believe that we’ve had reported to us near the amount of vehicles that have been gone through. So, we are asking anybody that has had anything taken to report it, and let us know the area of town that it happened. And, if anybody has seen anything suspicious or any suspicious people that they don’t necessarily recognize, let us know right away,” Mancini said.

“Hopefully this is going to be an isolated incident and it was maybe somebody passing through town, but it’s definitely something we’re looking into and we’re trying to identify a couple of suspects now.”

Anyone wanting to report a theft or suspicious activity can call the Ucluelet RCMP detachment at 250-726-7773.

“If you see something that doesnt look right in town, or a strange person in town that you don’t think is up to any good then, by all means, don’t feel like you shouldn’t be calling that in,” Mancini said. “We want to know and we want to be pushed in the direction of where problems may be…If somebody stands out to you, please call us right away.”
