Dale Jorgensen President of Penticton and District Search and Rescue said “we sure got a shock today” after finding out important gear was stolen.
After arriving at the Penticton fire department hall at 8 a.m. on Oct. 24 to get set up for training, volunteers found two of the search and rescue trailers had been broken into.
Randy Brown, public affairs officer for Penticton and District Search and Rescue said thieves made off with a 1,000 watt Honda generator and a number of gas cans they use for the UTV’s.
“It’s certainly disheartening considering we are a volunteer and self funded organization. Everyone here gives so much to help others,” said Jorgensen.
PENSAR now will have to invest money into a new generator and look at adding more security measures which all takes from the small budget they have made through fundraising efforts.
“We are hopeful that someone out in the area will hear what has happened and call police or crime stoppers with any information. so that we get our generator back,” said Jorgensen.
The Honda generator has a serial number of EZGA 1163235. Anyone with information on the thefts should call Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300 or to remain anonymous CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
