The village of Harrison Hot Springs – as with so many other places across the world – continues to batten down their proverbial hatches and outwait the coronavirus.

In an address on Wednesday, March 25, Harrison Hot Springs Mayor Leo Facio said village workers have installed further signage asking visitors to visit another time and the front street of Esplanade Avenue has been closed. Furthermore, the three major hotels in Harrison have closed their doors to help combat the spread of COVID-19.

“This past week has seen many changes in our community,” the mayor said in a statement. “However, these changes were necessary to protect the health and safety of all of us. Information about the spread of the coronavirus has been changing rapidly, and the need to protect our citizens is urgent. Our message is clear – now is the time for visitors to stay home.”

Facio went on to thank the workers on the front line of the pandemic as well as the council, village workers, doctors, local RCMP and the first responders in addition to those serving takeout food and to stores providing needs during this harrowing time.

“This is a community coming together – we will all come out of this stronger,” the mayor said. “Please follow the instructions of the provincial health authorities. Keep your distance, obey signs, stay safe, look after one another, check in on friends and neighbours and be kind. God bless you all.”
