Thousands pack downtown Qualicum Beach for Fire and Ice Festival

Residents and visitors were able to vote for their favourite hot chili and cool sculptures

SERVING UP CHILI: Thousands of people packed downtown Qualicum Beach on Saturday for the annual Fire and Ice Festival. In the accompanying photo, Cara MacDonald stirs up some offerings from the Rotary Club’s booth.

The winners for the event are as follows: Best Professional Chili Team — Micky J’s Bar and Grill at Arrowsmith Golf Course (also winners for best decorated),  Honourable Mentions — Quality Foods and Cafe Brie; People’s Choice Award — Lefty’s Fresh Food. Ice Carvers, First Place and People’s Choice Award — Hitoshi Shimmoto; Second Place — Johnny Woo; Third Place — Aaron Grant; Lifetime Carver Award — Heinz Zadler.
