Threats of violence against Golden Secondary School confirmed by RCMP as unsubstantiated

The Golden RCMP responded to a report of threats being made against the Golden Secondary School population on Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden RCMP responded to a report of threats being made against the Golden Secondary School population on Tuesday afternoon. School officials activated their security lock down protocol in conjunction with the RCMP’s attendance. The allegation that two students made the threats was investigated and deemed to be unfounded. The threat allegation was received from a Golden Secondary parent.

On February 16, 2016 at around 13:00 the Golden RCMP received a report from staff at the Golden Secondary School that two students that were in school that day, had allegedly made threats of violence levelled against the general school population. The Golden RCMP responded immediately to the incident, with a visible number of resources to conduct a proper search of the premises in conjunction with the school activating it`s security and safety protocols. RCMP investigators located the two students of interest and interviewed the pair along with off-site inquiries being made as well.

The matter was thoroughly investigated and it was determined that the threats were not substantiated. School staff was then able to lift the security lock down protocol which had lasted approximately 40 minutes.

RCMP investigators will continue to assist the school with their investigation into to the matter. No charges are expected.
