Six drivers are facing Motor Vehicle Act charges, following recent CounterAttack efforts in White Rock – and one, a criminal-impaired charge.

Const. Chantal Sears said Friday that statistics from the campaign’s December launch – conducted last Saturday on the city’s Marine Drive ‘hump’ – include two 24-hour suspensions for drug impairment, one 24-hour suspension for alcohol impairment, one Criminal Code charge for drug impairment and one 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP).
There was also one driver cited under the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act, for operating a vehicle with cannabis inside.
An additional 21 tickets were issued for violations not related to impaired driving, including failure to produce a driver’s licence, open liquor in vehicle, fail to display an ‘N,’ speeding and fail to stop at a red light.
In Surrey, that same day, police checked approximately 400 vehicles, Sgt. Chad Greig told Peace Arch News Friday.
Three IRPs and five violation tickets were issued.
There were also “many designated drivers, which was great to see,” Greig said.
Sears and Greig said road checks will continue in the two cities this weekend.
“And throughout the week, too,” Sears added.

The CounterAttack program is a police-run roadblock tactic that targets drug- and alcohol-impaired drivers. It has been running in the province for more than 40 years and typically takes place during July and December.
