The Comox Valley RCMP were kept very busy from Dec. 4-8, investigating a large amount of thefts of vehicles and thefts from vehicle files. During that time period, seven vehicles were reported stolen and many vehicles were entered, rifled through and had items stolen. All vehicles had been left unlocked.
The hard work and tenacity of investigators led to the arrests of three adults and two youths as well as the recovery of all seven vehicles. All adults have been held in custody pending a court appearance. The youths have been released with strict conditions to their guardians, also pending a future court appearance. All apprehended persons were from Courtenay, with the exception of one adult from Campbell River.
“This is an opportunity to remind everyone to be vigilant about locking your vehicles” says Comox Valley RCMP Insp. Tim Walton. “This is a prime example of a crime of opportunity. If you don’t lock it, you will lose it”.
