A single-vehicle collision near Qualicum Beach on Sunday resulted in three people being taken to hospital.
The crash, which took place on Island Highway north of the Qualicum Beach exit, was reported at approximately 5 p.m.
“A Mercedes SUV being driven by a 53-year-old man suddenly lost control in the fast lane of the southbound lanes,” said Cpl. Jesse Foreman of the Oceanside RCMP in a press release. “The vehicle left the roadway onto the centre median where it proceeded to roll several times and landed up in the northbound lanes. No other vehicles were involved.”

Foreman said the driver and his adult son were taken to Nanaimo General Hospital. The driver’s wife was taken to the hospital via air ambulance.
“Traffic was slowed significantly for a number of hours while first responders dealt with the injuries, debris field and vehicle,” said Foreman. “Intoxication does not appear to have been a factor. Witness reports indicated that there was heavy rain at the time the driver lost control.”
