ORIGINAL STORY: 4 p.m. MAY 6.
Emergency crews and municipal staff throughout the Central Okanagan continue to attend to several areas impacted by flood waters.
Local states of emergency have been declared for Kelowna, West Kelowna and for the Fintry Delta in the Regional District of Central Okanagan to address flooding.
The evacuation order impacts approximately 90 multi-family units, four single-family homes, and one commercial property.
“A state of emergency provides the authority for staff and firefighters to enter onto private property, to enter buildings and to perform emergency repairs,” said Regional District of the Central Okanagan chief administrative officer Brian Reardon during a press conference.
Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran said the biggest area of concern is the corridor along Mill Creek.
“Crews are continuing to work around the clock monitoring areas of concern,” he said.
Basaran asked residents to stay out of affected areas and to follow signs of road closures.
