Thunderstorm warning issued for tonight

Conditions are ripe for the development of storms in the Shuswap

It might be hot and sunny for the moment, but Environment Canada has issued a weather warning for tonight in the Shuswap.

Thunderstorms with heavy downpours are possible due to conditions developing ahead of a Pacific Cold front that is approaching the BC coast.

“Heavy rain associated with the thunderstorms combined with spring snow melt will lead to rising river levels and may increase the risk of flooding. Fast flowing water and adjacent riverbanks may be unsafe,” reads the release.

Landslides have been all too common in the Shuswap this spring already, affecting areas from Eagle Bay to Silver Creek and Sunnybrae.

Residents with known risk factors should take steps to protect their property and the BC River Forecast Centre will issue streamflow advisories if necessary.
