This years Tim Hortons ‘Camp Day’ drive was a huge success and will see two girls from Vanderhoof heading off to one of Tim Hortons six kids camps.
Various fundraising initiatives were held in and around the Vanderhoof Tim Hortons store on June 1.
Employees washed cars windscreens for a donation and a yard sale was held out outside the store selling various Tim Hortons branded items such as cups, blankets and T-shirts. Funds were also raised through a ‘Rent-a-Tent’ promotion where customers personalized paper cut-out tents and posted them in-store for a donation. The window washing team raised $323.45, the yard sale brought in $428.53 and the ‘rent-a-tent’ promotion raised $1389.65.
All proceeds from coffee sales during the day also went to the fund.
The Vanderhoof Tim Hortons also got some extra help in-store for the day in the form of various community leaders from both Vanderhoof, Fraser Lake and Saik’uz First Nation.
Clinton Mauthe, CAO for the Village of Fraser Lake arranged for the participation of mayor Gerry Thiessen of Vanderhoof, mayor Dwayne Lindstrom of Fraser Lake, Chief Jackie Thomas of Saik’uz First Nation, Councillor Kerry Jantz from Fraser Lake, Fire Chief Dave Prentice from Fraser Lake and Fire Chief Joe Pacheco from Vanderhoof.
“It goes to such a good cause so as an organization we’re very very happy and grateful that we can contribute our time,” said Mauthe.
All participating stores in Canada and America raised a total of $9.9 million for the kids camps.
The camps send 14,000 economically disadvantaged kids annually to six Tim Hortons camps in America and Canada, for an all expenses paid 10-day adventure.
