And they’re off.
While there are already two candidates running for the mayor’s chair — incumbent councillor Tim Lavery is the first to announce his bid for re-election to city council in the October municipal election.
“People have been asking and I’ve made the decision, so the timing is right,” said Lavery in a press release.
“Effective leadership is all about what we do, as well as how we actually do it. It involves fiscal prudence, promoting a strong, diverse, modern local economy, progressive and inclusive policies, collaborative approaches, increased citizen engagement and lots of hard work.”
Lavery has been a councillor for one term, first elected in 2014.
“I’m eager to again offer my leadership skills for a Salmon Arm that works.”
There are six seats available for councillors, in addition to the mayor’s chair.
Confirmed as running for mayor are incumbent Nancy Cooper and current councillor Alan Harrison.
