Police called after man seen 'trying door handles' of Langley City homes

A violent offender has been returned to jail following a report of a suspicious person in Langley City.

Early Monday morning, police attended the 20400 block of Douglas Crescent to follow up on a report of a male trying door handles in the area.

The officer attending located a male sitting in the stairwell of an apartment building. He gave the officer a name and then took off running.

The officer quickly caught up to the man and realized he had been given a false name. The man was familiar to the officer from a recent Canada-Wide warrant broadcast for being unlawfully at large after missing his curfew and tampering with his monitoring bracelet.

The 34-year-old man is now back in custody.

“These circumstances are a perfect example of why it is so important to report suspicious activity,” said Langley RCMP Cpl. Holly Largy.

“You just never know what you might be alerting the police to.”
