Langley resident Brian Plant has been convicted of trying to break into a Brookswood home last April and sentenced to one year in jail.
The 49-year-old was arrested after a resident phoned the RCMP to report a suspicious character was casing a house in the area of 199 Street and 48 Avenue.
Police caught Plant in a back yard.
The suspect had cuts to his hand apparently suffered while trying to force open a window.
Plant was described as well-known to police with a lengthy criminal record.
He was convicted on one count of break and enter with intent to commit an offence and sentenced by a Surrey Provincial Court judge on Jan. 27.
In a written release, Langley RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Holly Marks praised the tipster for calling police back in April.
“This one phone call started a chain of events where a suspect was identified, forensic experts and investigators were engaged, charges were laid and a conviction resulted,” Marks said.
“This is exactly the type of [behaviour] we want to encourage.”
