Tonight: Committee of the Whole meeting

U-Bicycle proposal and land use applications

  • Apr. 16, 2018 12:00 a.m.

A Committee of the Whole meeting happens tonight at Oak Bay municipal hall starting at 7 p.m..

The evening begins with a presentation on U-Bicycle’s proposed operation of a dockless bike share system. Debra Hopkins, deputy director of Corporate Services, will share with the committee information on U-Bicycle’s desire to expand into Oak Bay. U-Bicycle uses smartphone technology to unlock bikes and to pay for usage. The dockless system allows bikes to be left anywhere, including public places such as sidewalks and boulevards, as opposed to docked systems that require bikes be returned to racks or locked areas after use.

The committee will then address land use applications. The first is an Uplands Siting and Design application to construct a single family home at 3380 Ripon Road. The second is a rezoning application for a two lot single family residential subdivision at 1605 York Place. The third is a development variance permit application to renovate and build an addition to an existing single family home at 1248 Hewlett Place.
