The Tour de Rock team is down one cyclist following a mishap on the road to Tofino on the weekend. Steve Wright, the operations NCO for West Shore RCMP detachment, separated his shoulder during the mishap, fellow team rider Katie DeRosa wrote in the Victoria Times-Colonist (DeRosa, a journalist, is one of three media riders this year).
Matt Pidgeon, a Military Police officer, received a head injury but was to rejoin the team today (Monday, Sept. 29).
The team stopped in Port Alberni on Friday (Sept. 26) and made appearances at Walmart, Boston Pizza, Alberni Elementary, Gill Elementary and AW Neill Middle School before departing for the West Coast on Saturday morning.
The team made several stops today between Nanaimo, Ladysmith and Chemainus. They head to Duncan for several appearances on Tuesday (Sept. 30). Their 1,000-kilometre bike ride will end this week in Victoria.
The team is riding to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research.
