Tourist drowns in Skaha Lake

A 40-year-old Alberta man drowned in Skaha Lake Thursday afternoon.

A 40-year-old Alberta man drowned in Skaha Lake Thursday afternoon.

Penticton RCMP were called out to the area of Wright’s Campground off Highway 97 shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police report the man tried to swim out to his daughter who was floating on a raft too far away from shore. The young girl was retrieved from the water by a nearby boater.

The father was found about 10 minutes later at the bottom of the lake. Efforts were made to resuscitate the male until paramedics arrived on scene. The man was transported to Penticton Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The name of the deceased is being withheld at the request of the family.
