There’s very little room left in the inn, or hotel or campground.
With the B.C. Day long weekend upon us, tourists are flocking into the region and Vernon accommodations are currently about 90 per cent full.
“There’s expectation that the remaining vacancies will book out in the days to come,” said Ange Chew, the city’s tourism manager.
The strong interest from tourists comes at the same time that some challenges exist, and specifically some people believing the area is negatively impacted by wildfires elsewhere in the Interior.
“Tourism Vernon has been working hard to get the word out that Vernon is open for business and accessible from both the Lower Mainland, Alberta and the U.S.,” said Chew.
“We are using social/digital media to expedite the message that the region is not on fire and open for business.”
Vernon is being promoted daily with the new Vernon 365 digital campaign.
“Through our daily social media updates, we are reaching out to our key markets to entice them to visit Vernon this summer,” said Chew.
“We have supported our digital and social media campaigns with print ads in key publications in our top markets.”
