Development of a subdivision adjacent to Tower Point Park is underway, with excavators and bulldozers working on installation of a roadway and cul-de-sac for a new waterfront property off Duke Road in Metchosin.
The properties, among the most valuable in Metchosin, line the waters of Perry Bay and are owned by the estate of Hugh and Shirley Ridley. The plan is for seven one-acre lots, and one home on a two-acre lot.
The Friends of Tower Point had been lobbying Metchosin council to take five per cent of the land or approximately a half-acre, hoping for a trail providing another access to the current park.
However, back on July 20 of last year, council voted 4-1 to accept $200,000 in lieu of land as part of the deal for a development for the 10-acre subdivision.
