The vehicle collided with a City of Penticton power pole

  • Sep. 28, 2018 12:00 a.m.

Traffic is being rerouted around a portion of Lakeside Road due to a vehicular accident.

The accident took place south of Smythe Drive at approximately 1:40 p.m. when a vehicle traveling northbound on Lakeside Road collided with a city power pole.

Witness accounts state that a second vehicle traveling south on Lakeside Road may have been a contibuting factor. No plate description has been obtained, though the vehicle is reported to be a white Honda that had been traveling in the lane of oncoming traffic at the time of the accident.

Two individuals that were in the vehicle that struck the pole were taken to hospital following the accident.

“They are being taken to PRH to be further assessed, and the passenger of the vehicle was complaining about one of her arms, and that is all we know at this point,” said Captain Blaine Dionne on the scene of the accident.

City electrical assessed the damage inflicted on the power pole and have concluded that the damage does not constitute a danger to pedestrians and vehicles traveling in the area. The pole is still standing though off-kilter due to the impact.

“The pole has sheared off at the base, now that they’ve assessed it, they said we can open this up once we clear the vehicle out of here,” said Captain Dionne.

It is anticipated that travel will resume shortly after 3:00 this afternoon. This post will be updated as more information becomes available.
