Traffic enforcement hits railways

angley RCMP Traffic Services partnered with Canadian Pacific Railway Police Service to conduct an enforcement operation

On Friday, April 28, Langley RCMP Traffic Services partnered with Canadian Pacific Railway Police Service to conduct an enforcement operation at railway crossings in two locations.

Their chosen locations for the day were Fraser Highway at Production Way and 200 Street at Fraser Highway. Their focus was violations such as disobey traffic control sign, distracted driving (cell phones), seat belts, and unsafe lane changes, among other offences.

The joint operation netted 85 Motor Vehicle Act offences over a four hour period with the most significant quantities issued for speeding, disobey traffic control device for stopping on the ‘cross hatches’ at the crossing  and drive past a railroad crossing gate. Several distracted driving tickets were issued in these very busy areas.

CP Police spent several more hours the following day and an additional ten tickets were written for similar offences.

This operation and the results should serve as a strong reminder to all motorists to slow down and focus on driving safely. The Langley area has many railway crossings in Langley and driving demands your full attention.
