Races on Bear Mountain, followed by beer gardens and live music at Mill Pond Park will mark the first weekend of October in Mission.
The Valley Race Productions event will help support Mission Search and Rescue and the Fraser Valley Mountain Biking Association, and coincides with two races – one by foot, and the other by mountain bike – taking place over a weekend.
The Fraser Valley Trail Race takes place on Saturday, Oct. 2, and the Fraser Valley Bike Race on Sunday, Oct. 3.
“It’s amazing to get back to live events, and we appreciate the support of the City of Mission and all our partners to make this happen. Valley Race Productions is hosting this race weekend, and profits will be given back to community partners,” said organizer Matt Holbrook, managing director of Holbrook Sports Management.
A beer garden and live music will take place after the races.
The event just got the go-ahead from Mission council on Sept. 7, so the organizers can obtain a permit from the BC Liquor Control and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCCRB).
Holbrook Sports Management has previously held an event at the park and the city received no complaints, according to staff’s recommendation to council.
The garden and race will fully comply with public health orders relating to controlling the spread of COVID-19.
“Covid protocols will be in place, including a 20 minute start window so that participants can start the course on their own timeline and all can be socially distanced,” Holbrook said.
