The Trail and District RCMP are on the lookout for a white van with tinted windows.
The vehicle in question was reported to police after a suspicious occurrence near Fruitvale Elementary School on Tuesday.
“On Feb. 19 at 6:35 p.m. a Fruitvale resident contacted the Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment to report a suspicious incident with his 11-year-old female niece that occurred early that day in Fruitvale,” said the press release.
“The young girl was walking to the Fruitvale Elementary School in the morning when a white van with tinted windows pulled up beside her. There was a female driver and a male passenger inside the van. The male passenger asked her if she would like a ride to school. The girl declined and walked the rest of the way to school.”
The release stated the young girl told her friends at school about the incident and then her uncle later that afternoon after school ended. Her uncle reported the incident to the Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment.
“This morning (Feb. 20) the Crime Reduction Unit, in an unmarked police vehicle, conducted patrols in the area in an effort to locate this van and its occupants,” said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich in the release.
The Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment is asking for the public’s help in identifying the occupants of the van.
“The matter is only considered suspicious at this time and the police would like to speak to the occupants to determine their motivation for offering a ride to the girl and if they knew the girl.”
