History was made with swearing in of Trail's first female mayor

November

5 – Trail history is made when Mayor Lisa Pasin was sworn into office at a 98th inaugural council meeting.

9 – The Trail BC Liquor Store outlet became the latest victim of theft after an armed robber pulled a gun on the clerk. The thief left with two bottles of vodka but no cash.

9 – The first blast of winter caused a nine-car pileup near Castlegar.

11 – In honour of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, pipers around the world played the ballad “When the Battle is Over” to commemorate the event. Streets filled downtown Trail for the annual Remembrance Day ceremony.

13 – The B.C. government announced that the Lower Columbia Affordable Housing Society would receive a $900,000 grant for affordable housing in the area.

13 – In response to crime concerns, Trail council announced the creation of Community Safety Task Force.

15 – Baristas at the Trail Starbucks at Ferraro Foods donated almost $7,000 worth of tips towards the breakfast program at five local elementary schools.

16 – SD20 enrolment numbers have climbed for the third consecutive year with 175 more students throughout the district. Fruitvale Elementary saw the biggest increase with 20 new students.

17 – Wayne Kernachan, a 51-year-old tow truck driver, was struck and killed while responding to a vehicle on the side of the road near Castlegar.

20 – A report of a pair of wolves spotted near Sunningdale.

27 – Citing a backlog of paper work, the Trail RCMP detachment announces it will close its front office for every Friday until the new year. The RCMP stresses this will not impact patrols and simply allow staff to catch up on administrative duties.

28 – A YouTube video of Trail’s John Carter, dubbed “The World’s Most Extreme Grandpa,” quickly goes viral as the exploits of the 91-year-old doing every day activities in Trail highlight his passion for healthy lifestyle.
