4 – Back to school means more teachers and some new buses for the Kootenay-Columbia School District. Fifty new teachers have been hired by the district for the coming school year.
5 – A mountain goat found under the Victoria St. Bridge was tranquilized and relocated by conservation officers.
6 – The number of claims received by ICBC regarding the acid spills reaches the 2,500 mark.
6 – Trail is a stop on the BC Games 40th anniversary tour. An evening celebration event is held in Jubilee Park. Allana Ferro, Lea Maniago, Jacquie Huser and Jim Maniago were recognized with the Community Sport Hero Award.
7 – The City of Trail pulled out of a meeting on the acid spills due to other participants unwilling or unable to attend. The city cited a need for a complete picture to update the citizens.
10 – Bear activity is picking up in the region as harvest season arrives.
11 – A wildfire that spread to within 100 metres of the hospital was extinguished thanks to a massive effort from the air and ground. A fleet of airtankers and helicopters quickly contained a fire along McQuarrie Creek between the hospital and high school. An investigation determined the fire was human caused.
17 – With the nomination period over, the field is set for the Oct. 20 municipal elections. Locally, mayoral races will occur in Fruitvale, Montrose, Trail and Warfield.
18 – A Trail bus line, Silver City Stage Lines, has received approval to operate a service from Nelson to Kelowna in light of Greyhound’s decision to cease operations in the province.
20 – Military exercises come to Trail with 70 personnel from Trail, Cranbrook and the Lower Mainland participating in four days of activities.
22 – Another acid leak, less than one cup, near the Waneta Re-Load Centre has prompted a suspension of all shipments by truck until an investigation is complete.
24 – The Village of Montrose moved to ban pot retail sales in its community citing lack of available commercial space.
28 – Candidate forums in all the local communities draw big crowds and a lot of questions as the campaigning heads into its final weeks.
