Travel advisory in effect; MVIs snarl Trans-Canada near Revelstoke

The Trans-Canada Highway is reduced to single-lane alternating only following a vehicle incident 26 kilometres west of Revelstoke at Griffin Lake.

The incident happened sometime just before 4 p.m.

According to early, unconfirmed social media accounts, the incident involved a head-on collision near Griffin Lake, just west of Three Valley Gap. This report could not be confirmed.

The Revelstoke road rescue truck and two ambulances sped westbound out of Revelstoke at about 4 p.m. today.

An unconfirmed social media report indicated there was an entrapment involved and that a helicopter ambulance had been requested due to a serious injury. This report could not be confirmed.

It had been snowing heavily in the area all day, and 10 to 15 centimetres of snow is forecast overnight.

The Times Review placed a call to the Revelstoke RCMP but they were not immediately available for comment.

Revelstoke RCMP and a vehicle from the Sicamous RCMP detachment could be heard responding to several vehicle incidents on the highway today, including vehicles sliding into ditches.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the West Columbia region, predicting up to 15 centimetres of snow Friday night and Saturday morning.

DriveBC notes a travel advisory is in effect for the Revelstoke area and Glacier National Park. They are forecasting accumulations of up to 30 centimetres overnight.

An MVI just west of Sicamous closed the highway earlier today at about 2 p.m.

Just before 5 p.m. today, the transportation ministry issued an eastbound chain-up notice at Albert Canyon for commercial vehicles.

There was also a 40-minute delay at the Shelter Bay ferry earlier today, though it is unclear if that remains in effect.
