Trio in stolen vehicle flee from police, arrested on Sumas Mountain

Three people are in custody after they fled from police and were later located on Sumas Mountain in rough terrain and deep snow.

Abbotsford Police Sgt. Judy Bird said the incident began Friday at about 1:15 a.m., when an Abbotsford Police patrol officer attempted to pull over a stolen Toyota FJ Cruiser in the area of Fooks Road and North Parallel Road.

The vehicle fled from police and was seen heading up Sumas Mountain Road.

Patrol offices and canine units conducted area patrols, and the stolen vehicle was found almost 10 kilometres away on Sumas Mountain Road near Foxglove Lane.

Bird said the canine units tracked through the mountain terrain, deep snow and inclement weather, and located three people, who were taken into custody.

Items seized included bear spray and a black handgun that was later determined to be a replica.

Shane Fischer, 36; Eric Levitt, 37; and Haley Gnam, 19, have each been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.

Levitt has also been charged with breaching four court-ordered conditions and obstruction.

Gnam has also been charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

All three, who are not from the Abbotsford area, had outstanding warrants and have been remanded in custody.
