Three people were taken to hospital – one in critical condition – following a two-vehicle accident Saturday evening in Newton.
Police say a vehicle heading south on 138 Street was attempting to turn left onto 72 Avenue when it was struck by a northbound vehicle. One of the vehicles then struck a group of pedestrians standing at the corner of the intersection, pinning one bystander under the vehicle.
The three pedestrians were transported to hospital with serious injuries. One female was in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.The other two victims – one male and a female – were in stable condition.
Drivers from both vehicles remained at the scene, and RCMP say drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.
