The popular Trivago tourism site has ranked Port Alberni eighth out of the 10 Best Value Small Towns in Canada.
“It’s hugely significant for us,” says Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce executive director Bill Collette. “It’s about time we’re being recognized as a destination in itself. I think it’s appropriate.”
Trivago is a popular website for people searching for accommodation in destinations around the world. Being recognized by this site will pass on that recognition elsewhere, Collette said.
“What it will do is have other similar outlets take a look at us, if it doesn’t already.”
BC’s rural towns swept the Best Value list this year, claiming five of the top 10 list, according to Trivago.
Quebec’s Gaspé—part of the eastern province’s quintessential look at “Quebec by the sea”—claimed top spot, followed by Whitecourt, Alta., Smithers and Hope, BC, Magog, QC, Alma, QC, Quesnel in seventh, Summerside, PEI in ninth and Prince Rupert in 10th.
Trivago’s best value index ranks cities based on a combination of consumer ratings and average hotel prices.
