Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Practical Nursing (PN) program in Williams Lake has received a five-year approval with no limitations or conditions from the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals.

“This is indeed an outstanding result and means our PN program is among the very few who receive a five-year rating with no conditions,” said Donna Murnaghan, Dean and Professor, TRU School of Nursing.

Among the positive comments received from the review team, Murnaghan noted one specific example was “the dedication and commitment of everyone during the wildfire season of 2017 with instructors still available and supportive to our students.”

Baldev Pooni, Designate Dean, TRU Williams Lake and Dean, TRU School Trades and Technology, emphasized that the five-year approval is a reflection of everything the extended nursing team does throughout a student’s educational journey; from the faculty, staff, students, and practice partners, to administration on both TRU campuses.

“A five-year approval with no conditions is [a] rarity and [everyone] should be proud of it,” Pooni said.

The practical nursing diploma is just one of three TRU School of Nursing programs offered at the TRU Williams Lake Campus, in addition to the Health Care Assistant Certificate and the first two years of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Practical Nursing is a two-year diploma, offered entirely and only on the TRU Williams Lake campus, with the next intake set for Fall 2020.

Applications for the 2020 intake open on October 1, 2019.
