A driver was taken to hospital after crashing a B.C. Ferries cube van into a pole on the side of the old Island Highway.
The accident happened a little before 2 p.m. on Friday near Departure Bay Road and B.C. Ambulance Service, Nanaimo Fire Rescue and Nanaimo RCMP were called to the scene.
Crews on scene said a medical reason was believed to be a cause of the crash. The vehicle knocked down a lamp standard before colliding with a pole supporting a highway and ferry information sign.
Southbound traffic was reduced to one lane.
