Truck crashes into pole on the side of the highway in Nanaimo

Driver of B.C. Ferries truck taken to hospital after 1:50 p.m. incident across from Brooks Landing

A driver was taken to hospital after crashing a B.C. Ferries cube van into a pole on the side of the old Island Highway.

The accident happened a little before 2 p.m. on Friday near Departure Bay Road and B.C. Ambulance Service, Nanaimo Fire Rescue and Nanaimo RCMP were called to the scene.

Crews on scene said a medical reason was believed to be a cause of the crash. The vehicle knocked down a lamp standard before colliding with a pole supporting a highway and ferry information sign.

Southbound traffic was reduced to one lane.
