Teen driver at fault, RCMP say

Traffic at the intersection of 56 Avenue and Langley Bypass was disrupted for six hours after a collision between a ghost car and a pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old teen.

The collision at the intersection near Twin Rinks occurred at about 8 p.m. on Monday when the unmarked police car, traveling south on the bypass, was struck by the pickup which was going north.

Langley RCMP spokesman Cpl. Holly Marks said that the initial investigation and statements from witnesses point to the young driver being at fault. The police car had the green light and the right of way, Marks said.

The police car was a Chevy Tahoe. The officer was checked by B.C. Ambulance paramedics who found only minor injuries.

The pickup driver and the 16-year-old boy riding with him, were also examined and did not require hospitalization.

Both vehicles will undergo mechanical inspections, Marks said.

The intersection remained closed until approximately 2 a.m. on Tuesday.
