Tsartlip say okay to Peninsula Co-op

The Tsartlip First Nation approved leasing of their land on Stelly’s X Road, between the Saanich Fairgrounds and Gowdy Road, to Peninsula Co-op.

The Tsartlip First Nation approved leasing of their land on Stelly’s X Road, between the Saanich Fairgrounds and Gowdy Road, to Peninsula Co-op. Peninsula Co-op plans to develop a food market, gas bar and the Co-op’s administration offices there.

The Co-op and Tsartlip announced the agreement in July, but waited for a final agreement until after the community held a referendum.

“Through this referendum, our band members have shown strong support for this development and believe it will bring valuable economic benefit to the Tsartlip First Nation and provide employment opportunities, particularly for our young people,” said Chief Wayne Morris.

“Peninsula Co-op is very pleased with the result of the Tsartlip members’ referendum and their strong support of this project,” said Ron Gaudet, president of the Co-op board of directors. “We look forward to the long-term value this development will bring to them, the Peninsula Co-op’s members and the community as a whole”
