CENTRAL SAANICH — The Saanich Peninsula is playing a role in a reboot of a popular animated series, ReBoot.
Nearing the end of completion, the filming has taken place around the Vancouver and Greater Victoria Area, including the Saanich Fairgrounds since February.
Produced by Vancouver’s Mainframe Studios and Corus Entertainment, the production is on the live-action elements of ReBoot: The Guardian Code, a 20X20 minute live-action CG-animated hybrid television series.
ReBoot: The Guardian Code intercuts live action scenes with awe inspiring CG animation produced with the Unreal game engine.
“The power of the game engine’s capabilities to create vast cyberspace settings along with AI (Artificial Intelligence) for dynamic secondary animation fused with live action, will deliver a truly unique and engaging experience for viewers,” said Creator and Executive Producer Michael Hefferon in a recent media release.
Besides the Saanich Fairgrounds, filming locations have included Oak Bay High School and private residences.
The next phase of production re-imagines the original 1994 animated classic, ReBoot, in a real life setting for modern and tech savvy audiences.
Created by Hefferon, the show follows four teenagers who discover that they’ve been selected to become the Next Generation Guardians of cyberspace.
“As groundbreaking as the original ReBoot was being the first ever CG animated series, ReBoot: The Guardian Code takes it to a whole new level,” said Hefferon.
The re-make cast includes Ty Wood, Sydney Scotia, Ajay Parikh-Friese, Gabriel Darku and Hannah Vandenbygaart.
The series will also deliver true 360-degree engagement experiences for audiences with interactive mobile games, a digital trading card game that syncs with the broadcast of the series and a Virtual Reality experience. More details on this will be announced at a later date.
The series will premiere on YTV on March of 2018.
