Two people are in Nanaimo hospital with serious injuries after a two-vehicle collision near Little Qualicum Falls closed Alberni Hwy for four hours on Sunday.
Emergency crews from Coombs, BC Ambulance and Oceanside RCMP responded to calls of an accident on the Alberni Highway at Little Qualicum Falls at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, RCMP Cpl. Jesse Foster said.
The driver of a black Acura sedan attempted to turn left into the provincial park and drove directly in front of a westbound Toyota SUV.
The subsequent crash severely injured two of four Acura occupants. Two air ambulances were used to transport the injured to hospital from the scene.
The other two Acura occupants as well as driver and passenger in the SUV were also taken to hospital by ambulance for observation and treatment of minor injuries.
The occupants of the Acura were from Ladysmith. The occupants of the SUV were from Parksville, Foster said.
The Alberni Highway was closed for approximately four hours while RCMP completed their investigation.
Speed and alcohol were not factors in this collision. Motor Vehicle Act charges are being considered by the Oceanside RCMP.
