While there are only two mayor’s chairs up for grabs on the West Shore in the Oct. 20 municipal elections, there’s no shortage of candidates seeking council seats.

Incumbent Colwood Mayor Carol Hamilton faces a challenge from current Coun. Rob Martin. Dean Jantzen, Michael Baxter, Aaron Weisgerber, Gordie Logan, Eve Millington, Jason Nault, Stewart Parkinson, Doug Kobayashi, Scott McDonald and Misty Olsen are all taking a run at council.

Robert Fraser is running against Langford Mayor Stew Young, while incumbents Denise Blackwell, Lillian Szpak, Lanny Seaton, Matt Sahlstrom and Roger Wade face competition from Wendy Hobbs, Norma Stewart and Rick Johal for council seats.

While Metchosin Mayor John Ranns is unchallenged in his re-election bid, Andy MacKinnon, Darren Brown, Sharie Epp, Brian Domney, Norm Hardy, Kyara Kahakauwila, Marie-Terese Little and Jenny Millar are running for positions on council.

Highlands Mayor Ken Williams is also seeking re-election without challenge. Ann Baird, Gord Baird, Marcie McLean, Rose Santon, Leslie Anderson and former mayor Karel Roessingh are running for council.

No one stepped up to run against View Royal Mayor David Screech, who is seeking re-election. Ron Mattson, John Rogers, Gery Lemon, Damien Kowalewich, Nathan Daisley and Adam Flint are in the hunt for seats on council.

Thirteen candidates have registered to run for seven trustee positions with the Sooke School District. Cendra Beaton, Bob Beckett, Russ Chipps, Wendy Hobbs, Ravi Parmar, Dianna Seaton, Blair Sloane, Trudy Spiller, Robert Phillips, Neil Poirier, Britt Santowski, Margot Swinburnson and Allison Watson make up the field of candidates.

Nicole Duncan, Aidan Elkin, Tom Ferris, Vincent Gornall, Elaine Leonard, Diane McNally, Ryan Painter, Zul Rajabali, Jordan Watters and Ann Whiteaker have declared for positions as trustees in the Greater Victoria School District.
