The Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 195 calls from Monday Oct. 29, to midnight Nov. 4. Of those calls approximately 80 occurred between Friday and Sunday. Below are some highlights from the weekend.
Pedestrians struck
Two people were hit by vehicles in two separate incidents Friday.
A man was hit by a car Friday night near Hwy 16 E and Hwy 37. Around 8:25 p.m., Friday Nov. 2, Terrace RCMP responded to a collision in which a pedestrian crossing the highway was struck by a vehicle. The man displayed signs of intoxication. He sustained injuries, which appeared to be minimal, and was transported to the hospital.
Earlier that same day, around 11:15 a.m., Terrace RCMP received a report of a hit and run at Sparks Street and Lakelse Avenue, involving a woman in a wheelchair. Police attended and spoke with the woman who stated she was crossing the street when a car struck her leg. The woman was uninjured and her wheelchair was not damaged. Police investigated and contacted the driver of the vehicle, who had been unaware he had made contact with the woman.
Assist other agency
Terrace RCMP responded to a report of an unwanted man at a business on the 4600 block of Lakelse Avenue, which turned into a call requiring medical assist. On Friday Nov. 2, just before 1 a.m., police attended a disturbance call to find ambulance service staging in the area. Police checked out the scene before advising EHS it was safe to move in. The man was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
Domestic reports
Police received approximately three reports of domestic disturbances over the weekend. A verbal domestic was reported Friday just after before 1:30 a.m. Police attended and spoke with those present. On Saturday Nov. 3 around 1:20 a.m., police were called to an address for a possible domestic assault, which turned out to be adults watching television and arguing about a movie. Later Saturday night, a man was arrested for uttering threats and assault following a report of a domestic file. He was released on a Promise to Appear with conditions.
Break and enters
Terrace RCMP responded to a break and enter in progress on the 4400 block of Park Avenue. Police arrived on scene and located a man trying the door knob of a residential home. The man was extremely intoxicated, as was another man nearby. Both were arrested and lodged in cells.
A group of youths was reported to be banging around in an abandoned house on the weekend. On Saturday Nov. 3, around 7:45 p.m., police responded to Copper River Road for the mischief report. Upon arrival, members observed some fresh damage to the house, as well as older and extensive graffiti. No one was located in the area.
Rocks crash into highway
A rock fall west of Terrace stopped at least one vehicle in its tracks. Around 7 a.m. on Sunday morning, Nov. 4, Terrace RCMP received a report of a rock fall about 12 kms west of Terrace on Hwy 16. No injuries were reported but the highway was blocked by the large rocks. Highway maintenance was advised and took control of the scene.
Sobered up at the detachment
Approximately nine people spent some time sobering up with police over the weekend. Eight men and one woman were arrested between Friday and Sunday for liquor and disturbance related offences, or offences committed while they were severely intoxication. They were held in police custody to sober up safely.
