Two Kelowna residents are lucky to be alive after an accident in Coldstream.

On Monday at about 3 p.m.,  the RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle accident at Highway 97 and College Way.

“The investigation determined the vehicle had been travelling northbound on Highway 97, and it crossed three lanes of traffic, narrowly missing two oncoming semi-trucks, before hitting the ditch on the east side of the road, where it rolled on to its roof,” said Gord Molendyk, Vernon RCMP spokesperson.

Vernon firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extract the 57-year-old woman driver and a nine-year-old passenger.

They were both transported to Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

“Fortunately both parties were only bruised up but were otherwise uninjured,” said Molendyk.

“It’s possible the driver fell asleep but we’re not 100 per cent sure.”
