Wet and icy roads have led to multiple crashes in Greater Victoria, including one on the Saanich Peninsula Wednesday morning.

A four-door SUV left West Saanich Road near Wallace Drive and crashed into a telephone pole, before coming to rest on its side.

The incident happened at around 7:30 a.m. and slowed southbound traffic in the area as crews on scene extracted the vehicle’s driver and passenger.

Officials on scene say a mother and her daughter, suffered minor injuries and have been taken to hospital.

Captain David Elder with the Saanich Fire Department praised the level of assistance from motorists, who stopped to help before emergency crews arrived.
