Due to high turbidity levels, boil water notices are in effect in Union Bay and in the Graham Lake Improvement District on Denman Island. Turbidity represents the presence of particles in the water.

The Union Bay Improvement District, in consultation with Island Health, issued the notice Dec. 31. The UBID is in the construction phase of a water treatment plant that will greatly reduce the occurrence of water quality advisories.

The Graham Lake notice went into effect Jan. 11.

Residents in both areas are advised to boil water for one minute before drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food.

Affected users in the UBID are those connected to the water system extending from the north end of Kilmarnock to the south end at the Buckley Bay rest stop.

Graham Lake, on the East side of Denman, is the water source for 67 properties in the GLID.
