Every week, the Kitimat RCMP publishes a list of several of the calls they responded to that week. Here’s the report from Nov. 20 to 25.
Unlicensed driver
On Nov. 20 at 8 p.m., Kitimat RCMP conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle. The vehicle did not have valid insurance. The officer asked to check the driver’s license, and found that the driver was unlicensed. The driver was to be served with a four-month driving prohibition as per the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles, and his vehicle was also impounded for seven days under the motor vehicle act.
Break-and-enter?
On Nov. 22 at 12:40 a.m., the Kitimat RCMP received a report of suspicious people outside of a residence. The caller stated he saw two people in his neighbours yards and thought they tried to break into his garage. An officer arrived and checked around and couldn’t find any evidence of a break-in.
Missing employee
On Nov. 23 at 1 p.m., an employer requested a check in on an employee, telling police that his employee had missed several flights home and was not returning messages. Police followed up with some of the employee’s friends and subsequently received a call back from the employee, himself, who told police he was in Terrace and had booked a flight home for the following day.
In-store assault
On Nov. 24 at 1:30 p.m., the Kitimat RCMP responded to an assault at a local business. The victim said he was punched by a suspect over $20 that the victim owed the suspect. Once there, police found the victim with a bleeding nose and a bruised eye. The suspect was located at a bus stop and arrested for assault. The suspect was intoxicated and wasn’t able to care for himself. The suspect was released once he was sober, with a February 2021 court date.
Unresponsive resident
On Nov. 25 at 12:45 p.m., the Kitimat RCMP were asked to check on a man at his residence. Police weren’t able to get an answer at the door when they arrived, so they followed up with the man’s neighbours and friends. The Kitimat RCMP requested the assistance of Kitimat Fire Department to get inside the residence and once inside, they found the elderly man deceased in his bedroom. The death was not suspicious and the B.C. Coroner’s Service was contacted.
