Earthquakes Canada confirmed a 6.6 magnitude aftershock at approximately 11:50 Sunday morning.
Many aftershocks have been recorded since Saturday evening’s 7.7. magnitude earthquake, with more than 40 of those with a magnitude of 4 or more.
No damage has been reported following the 6.6 aftershock this morning, according to Earthquakes Canada.
A tsunami warning was not issued.
Officials issued a tsunami warning, following Saturday’s 7.7 quake, for a broad area along the coast, stretching from northern Vancouver Island north to Alaska, following the detection of small tsunami wave by a deep ocean pressure sensor.
The force of Saturday’s earthquake extended the shaking through Smithers, Houston as far as Prince George and south to at least Quesnel.
The U. S. Geological Survey reported three aftershocks following the initial earthquake, ranging from 5.8 to 4.8 in magnitude.
This is the second largest earthquake in the region, the largest, a magnitude 8.1 earthquake occurred off the coast of Haida Gwaii on 1949, according to USGS.
