Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools is warning of other COVID-19 exposures at Bayview and Rock City elementary schools.
The school district had previously advised of COVID-19 exposures at the two schools and in a social media post Wednesday night, it advised Bayview had experienced additional exposure dates on Jan. 25, 27, 28 and 29 and Feb. 1. Rock City had potential exposure dates on Jan. 26, 27, 28 and 29. Island Health has completed contact tracing, the district said.
Since Sunday, the district has also announced exposures, or potential exposures, at other schools, with an exposure at Qwam Qwum Stuwixwulh School on Jan. 28 and a potential exposure at John Barsby Secondary School on Jan. 29.
The school district advises people to refer to Island Health’s school exposures web page for more information.
There were recent reports of a potential COVID-19 variant exposure at a Lower Mainland school, and when asked about concerns about spread in a school setting, Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s health officer, said the provincial health ministry had been watching for variants for some time.
“We’ve been targeting school-aged children and so far, none of the tests on anybody who’s in the school system have turned up positive … we know that transmission is very uncommon in our schools and we have been working with the school communities,” Henry said at a press conference on Monday.
