UPDATE: air quality advisory for dust in effect

Warning because of dusty Terrace streets means strenuous outdoor activity not advised in dusty areas

Persistent dust caused by the sunny, dry weather has once again led to an air quality advisory.

The the Ministry of the Environment alert for the Terrace area was issued today in consultation with Northern Health Authority because large air particulate, or PM10, is over 50 micrograms per cubic meter threshold.

Seniors and those with lung conditions are told to minimize outdoor exposure and keep windows closed until the advisory is lifted. And outdoor sporting activities by even healthy residents is not advised in dusty areas.

Suggested volunteer contributions to lowering the particulate count included refraining from using wood stoves and not idling vehicles.
