The Alberni Highway reopened Wednesday afternoon after a semi-truck rollover at Cameron Lake earlier in the morning disrupted traffic for nearly five hours.
DriveBC announced shortly after noon on Nov. 1 that the road was reopened. Throughout Wednesday morning, DriveBC reported, the highway was closed near Angel Rock at 20-minute intervals, with single-lane traffic allowed between the intervals to ease congestion.
The accident occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, when the truck and trailer failed to negotiate a corner near Angel Rock. The truck, which was travelling eastbound, rolled onto its driver’s side in the westbound lane, right at the guardrail separating the highway from the drop to the lake.
The condition of the driver, and whether there were other passengers in the truck, is unknown at this time.
Immediately following the rollover, single-lane traffic was routed around the blockage. DriveBC first announced the road was closed at 8:10 a.m. to facilitate removal of the truck, but single-lane alternating traffic was restored 20 minutes later. Traffic control on the scene continued to alternate between single-lane flow and closure of the road throughout the morning.
