The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) is inviting residents of Erickson and the Town of Creston to attend a celebration event on Thursday, August 9th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm to mark the completion of a multi-year upgrades project for the Arrow Creek Water System. The celebration event will be held at the restored Erickson Water Fountain located on 33rd Avenue and Highway 3.
“We are very excited to reach this milestone, and we look forward to celebrating with the community,” said Uli Wolf, General Manager of Environmental Services. “This has been a long process, and now that the project is complete, we have a robust water system which will provide drinking and irrigation water to the Creston and Erickson communities well into the future.”
Everyone is invited to attend the celebration to enjoy local refreshments and to view a display of the history of Arrow Creek Water System. A ribbon-cutting will be performed by special guests. No RSVP is required. The historical display will be available for viewing at the Creston & District Community Complex for a month following the celebration event.
The Arrow Creek Water System supplies the Town of Creston and the Erickson community with drinking and irrigation water. The upgrades project has spanned eleven years and has included much-needed improvements to infrastructure, including the replacement of 11 km of the transmission line, construction of two enclosed reservoirs, transmission line metering installation, treatment plant membrane filter replacement, and the installation of three pressure reducing stations.
The upgrades project was primarily funded by a $4.16 million Clean Water and Wastewater Fund grant and a $2.92 million New Build Canada Grant. Additional funding for the project came from Community Works Fund grants totalling $712,000.
