Susan Myers wants her beloved statue back.
Myers, who lives in Chemainus, said the 30-inch tall concrete statue of a woman looking downward that she has owned for decades was stolen off the front step of her residence at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 14.
She bought the statue while living in England with her husband 35 years ago as an attraction for a small pond she was setting up in her yard.
Myers said she brought the statue with her when the family relocated back to Canada, and it has been an iconic landmark outside every home she has lived in for the past 30 years.
She said she was awoken in the wee hours of the morning of Aug. 14 with her dog barking and heard a vehicle pulling away.
When she got up to check out what was happening, the statue was gone.
Myers said a neighbour’s security camera caught a video of a car leaving her property, but further identification of the vehicle was not possible.
“The statue is very special to me and has been with me for a long time,” she said.
“I was also broken into a couple of weeks ago and the thieves made off with more than $4,000 worth of mostly computer and camera equipment. I’m feeling very vulnerable and very sad. I thought I was living in paradise and now all of this has happened.”

The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP have sent out a public notice seeking the public’s assistance in locating the statue
Anyone with information about this theft or the whereabouts of the statue are asked to contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522.
Myers said she has spent the last few weeks advocating for a town hall meeting to discuss police coverage of Chemainus.
“The police say they are stepping up patrols, but the issue needs a public discussion,” she said.
