An elderly pedestrian who was struck in the 46000-block of First Avenue in Chilliwack Thursday afternoon was hit by a vehicle backing out of a driveway, according to RCMP.
Chilliwack Fire Department, BC Ambulance Service and RCMP were called to the scene shortly before 4 p.m. on March 18.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail confirmed Friday (March 19) that emergency crews arrived to find an 80-year-old woman on the ground with a walker beside her on the south side of First Avenue.
The incident took place near the cross street of Carleton Street. There is no crosswalk at that intersection and no sidewalk on the south side of First Avenue.
A landing zone was being set up for the air ambulance, but was later called off.
The woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
